Preparing for Irene
Jeffrey D. Klein
August 26, 2011
Dear Friend,
Irene is heading toward our shores and is expected to hit New York Sunday. This is a serious threat with the very real potential to inflict damage to our communities. I urge all of my constituents to follow precautions so that together we may limit any damage that Irene may cause.
The MTA will begin suspending all subway and bus services tomorrow at noon. Please note that the Alive N Kickin Concert scheduled for August 29th at 7:00 PM at Ambrosini Field on City Island will be rescheduled for Wed. August 31st at 7:00 PM due to Irene.
Below you will find some useful information as we prepare for the storm:
Tracking the Storm:
Irene is heading to North Carolina first. If you are interested in tracking the storm, you can so here.
Hurricane Readiness- What You Should Do Before the Storm:
There are a number of resources with helpful information about precautions in preparation for Irene. The American Red Cross has some suggestions here. The City of New York also has compiled all you need to know here. Don’t forget to download: “Ready New York: Hurricanes and New York City”.
Hurricane Evacuation Zones:
There is currently a “Hurricane Watch” in effect for New York City. The Office of Emergency Management is urging all New Yorkers to find out if they live in a hurricane evacuation zone. Residents in Zone A are advised to leave their homes before Irene arrives and are strongly encouraged to stay outside an evacuation zone, whether with friends or family, or at one of the Evacuation Centers which will be opentoday at 4:00 p.m.
For those of you in the Bronx, here's the link to check whether or not you are in the Hurricane Evacuation Zone. If you live in Westchester County, you can find the information here.
As always, you can follow me on Facebook or Twitter for additional updates as I receive them.
Stay safe,
Sincerely,
Jeff Klein
