
Major Federal Disaster Declared for Nineteen New York Counties Hit by Irene

The President has declared a major disaster in the following counties: Delaware Orange Sullivan Ulster Albany Clinton Dutchess Essex Greene Montgomery Nassau Rensselaer Rockland Saratoga Schenectady Schoharie Suffolk Warren Westchester This qualifies residents and businesses in these counties for direct federal assistance with basic necessities, cleanup and rebuilding efforts. To begin applying for assistance you can visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA(3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free numbers will operate from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM seven days a week until further notice. For those who live in counties not been listed above, additional counties could be added in the coming days. If you have damage to your property or an emergency situation, please report it to your county emergency management office. That will help increase the chances that your county could be added to the list of counties for which a major disaster can possibly be declared by President Obama.
