Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) today invited local residents to nominate family members, friends, coworkers and neighborhood leaders for induction into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame. Local veterans can be nominated for either their service during combat or notable work they have performed for their community after discharge from the service.
Those who would like to nominate a veteran living in the 2nd Senate District, which includes the entire Town of Smithtown and portions of both Brookhaven and Huntington Towns, should submit his or her information to Senator Flanagan’s office for consideration for the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame.
Residents can use the nominating form attached to this page or submit their nominees via e-mail at flanagan@nysenate.gov.
Those submitting via e-mail must include their name, address and phone number and a brief description of the person they are nominating. This description should include their full name, the branch of the military they served in, their current address and an outline of why they should be inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame.
A photo of the veteran should also be attached to the nominating e-mail.
The New York State Senate will honor distinguished veterans in our area and throughout the state at a reception in Albany on Flag Day on June 14th. While in Albany, these distinguished men and women will be special guests at a Senate session where they will each be presented with a special resolution honoring them all for their service to our country.
"The New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame provides everyone in our state with an opportunity to show these brave individuals that their service both in the military and in their community is remembered. I hope that people all across this region will feel free to nominate any veteran they may know for this great honor so other New Yorkers will be able to celebrate their service and dedication. The men and women selected will serve as symbols for all who served with them and all who continue to serve today and allow our community to say thank you,” stated Senator Flanagan.
Nominations must be submitted by Friday, April 22.
