Senator Flanagan Pays Visit To Commack School's 9/11 Memorial

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently had the honor of visiting Commack High School to view the “Flags for Freedom” display which commemorates those who were perished in the September 11^th attacks on America.  The display is comprised of nine hundred and eleven 3’x5’ American flags that were installed along the roadway leading to the school as a show of support for those who serve and protect our freedom in honor of the 10^th Anniversary of that fateful day.

Each of the over nine hundred flags was sponsored by local individuals, families, businesses, schools and organizations through a donation of $25 and were installed through the efforts of Commack students, community members and school leaders along the roadway leading to the school.

The money raised through this program will be utilized to assist the district’s Dollars for Scholars in memory of those who died on 9-11 and Commack High School graduate (2004) Justin Wilson, who died in Afghanistan.  The school will also be making a donation to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.

“This was truly an awe inspiring effort by the Commack School District and their students.  The time and effort that was put forth shows how young members of our community continue to honor the memory of the victims of 9/11.  Commack residents should be proud that their school district has taken such measures to reinforce lessons that are learned outside of the classroom as well as inside,” stated Senator Flanagan.

The “Flags for Freedom” will be on display at the school throughout September.  In early October, all flags will be sent to the sponsor.
