State Senator José M. Serrano and the Project Renewal Scan Van Program today offered free Mammogram Screenings for eligible women in Roosevelt Island!
“As community leaders it is not only our duty to encourage early detection, but to make it easier for our constituents to take advantage of the resources available. Getting a mammogram can be very costly- particularly for uninsured women, so we've been bringing the Scan Van to local residents so that they can benefit from the screenings free of charge.
A mammogram is a special X-ray used to create detailed images of the breast. The National Cancer Institute recommends that women age 40 and older have a screening mammogram every one to two years. Mammograms can help detect a breast cancer tumor years before a lump can be felt by touch.
Senator Serrano and the Scan Van will be at one more location in Yorkville.
