Senator Serrano and Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito visited The Little Sisters of the Assumption organization for their press conference with Huggies today. The National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), a non-profit organization raising awareness for the need of affordable diapers, and Huggies have partnered up to donate and distribute 12 million diapers to 12 cities across the United States to families in need during the holiday season. The Little Sisters of the Assumption in East Harlem received a donation of 100,000 diapers.
“It is unfortunate that so many families in New York City have to cut out other basic necessities to be able to afford diapers,” said Senator Serrano. “Many of my constituents in East Harlem are low-income and diapers can be extremely expensive. They are a basic need for anyone raising a child and it is wonderful that community partners are coming together to help East Harlem families.”
