October 27, 2011
Senator Serrano joined Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on a visit to Roberto Clemente State Park today. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the revitalization of urban waterways in under-served communities. Roberto Clemente State Park, because of its proximity to the Harlem River, has been listed as one of seven pilot locations for the Urban Waters Federal Partnership. The purpose of this partnership is to stimulate local economies, create jobs, and improve quality of life by revitalizing urban waterways.
"I think it's great that the Urban Waters Federal Partnership has chosen Roberto Clemente State Park," said Senator Serrano. "Roberto Clemente has increased the quality of life for the families of this community. Unfortunately, access to the Harlem River from this site is very limited. This program will be great step in getting the community more engaged with the waterfront and the great outdoors."
