Statement by Senator Joseph P. Addabbo on Senate Budget Resolution of March 15‏

March 16, 2011

Queens, NY, March 16, 2011 – NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Queens), released the following statement
on yesterday’s Senate budget resolution, now headed to conference committees for intensive negotiations,
before the April 1 deadline:

While I appreciate the efforts of the Senate Majority and a number of their state budget proposals, I could
not support their budget Resolution due to the questions surrounding its spending plan and lack of funding
to sustain it. I need to be sure that before I accept any budget, it should address the need for property
tax relief for city residents, provide for senior center funding, protect veterans’ programs and restore a
portion of the cuts to education. I believe these issues can be attended to, and at the same time cut
wasteful spending. I intend to continue my efforts to promote the idea that government agencies should make
an improved effort to collect unpaid liens and taxes owed to the state. Now that the Assembly and Senate have
provided their respective budget ideas, I look forward to working on the negotiation process that will
intensify until a state budget is ratified.
