Sunday, September 11th will mark the 10th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our state and country in 2001. Throughout the week and weekend, a number of community events and remembrances will take place to pay tribute to those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
The events on this page have been submitted to Senator Robach's office and are open to the public. If you know of an event around the district that is not listed on this page, please contact the office by emailing the information to robach@nysenate.gov.
Beginning on September 2nd, and continuing through Sunday, November 27th, 2011, the Rochester Museum and Science Center, located at 657 East Avenue in Rochester, is hosting 'September 11, 2001: A Global Moment'. Operation Patriot presents Mission: 343, honoring the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Mission: 343 opens on September 6th at Ontario Beach Park, and continues through Sunday, September 11th. The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive on Saturday, September 10th, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at The Mall at Greece Ridge, located in the Bon Ton wing. You can call the Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS to schedule your appointment. The first 100 presenting donors will receive free Papa John's pizza. If you donated on or before July 16, you will be eligible to donate.
Lakeshore Community Church, located at 3651 Latta Road in Greece, will hold two services in remembrance of 9/11. Services on Sunday, September 11th will be at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Click here to visit Lakeshore Community Church's website and see all the details regarding Sunday's services.
The Town of Greece Fire Departments (Barnard, Lake Shore, North Greece, and the Ridge Road Fire District), along with the Greece Police Department and the Town’s EMS providers (Greece Volunteer, and Monroe) will be having a 10th Anniversary “9-11 Community Remembrance Mass” on Sunday, September 11th starting at 11:00am at Our Mother of Sorrows Church located at 5000 Mount Read Boulevard. The Town of Brighton and the emergency services providers for the Town of Brighton will hold a 10th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony to honor the victims of 9/11/01 at Brighton Town Hall, 2300 Elmwood Avenue. At 12:45 p.m., there will be a posting of the colors by the Brighton Police Department Honor Guard and at 1:00, a moment of remembrance will be marked by a minute of reflection and ringing of bells.
Greece Assembly of God will host a special community service, "Remembering 9-11: A Community-Wide Service" in recognition of the 10th anniversary of September 11th, beginning at 6:00 pm.
