Griffo Gets $600K for Oneida County 911

Griffo Secures $600,000 to Assist Oneida County with 911 Emergency Services Consolidation

Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-C-IP, Rome) today announced that he has secured $600,000 in state funding to help Oneida County’s consolidation of 911 emergency communication systems.

“The consolidation of our emergency 911 systems in an important step forward in regional cooperation and in providing top-quality service to the people of Oneida County,” Griffo said. “As a strong advocate of consolidation of services, I recognize that there are costs associated with new ventures and that’s why, even in these very difficult fiscal times, I was able to secure a $600,000 appropriation for the county to cover the costs of adding the city of Utica to the communities covered by the 911 Emergency Communications Center in Whitestown. Uniting the 911 centers is a very tangible step forward in consolidation, one I am happy to support through securing funding that will allow the consolidation to move forward without any new tax being necessary in this first year of its operations.”

Griffo also thanked members of the local Assembly and Senate legislative delegation for supporting his efforts in passing the budget that included the funding he secured for Oneida County.

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr.  said, "I appreciate Senator Griffo's support for Oneida County. The consolidation of our three 911 centers into one has been a major accomplishment of my administration and this aid will help with our transitional costs. Thanks to the Senator and the support of our local legislative delegation for assisting in this effort."

Oneida County Board of Legislators Chairman Gerald Fiorini said, "This funding allows Oneida County to continue our efforts to provide the best and most efficient emergency dispatching service possible. I want to thank Senator Griffo for his actions on behalf of County Government and the people of Oneida County and our state legislative delegation for their support. Implementing this consolidated E-911 services has been a major public safety priority, and we are glad to be moving forward."
