Senator Golden to Announce Law to Support Games Volunteer Effort

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will host a press conference announcing legislation, S. 5380, approved to support the 2011 World Police and Fire Games, and welcome the 2011 WPFG NYC Bar Tour to Bay Ridge’s Yellow Hook Grille, located at 7003-3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.

Senator Golden sponsored the bill in the State Senate to support the volunteer effort necessary to the success of the Games by authorizing health care professionals licensed in other jurisdictions, and appointed by the 2011 World Police and Fire Games Federation, to practice in New York during the athletic events to be held from August 26 through September 5, 2011. Assemblyman Peter Abbate (D-Brooklyn) was the Assembly sponsor and Governor Cuomo signed the bill into law on July 8, 2011.

The 2011 World Police and Fire Games NYC Bar Tour is a fundraising event designed to increase awareness about the games to be held later this summer throughout the 5-boroughs of New York City. The Games will respectfully coincide with the ten year remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001.

The World Police and Fire Games are currently the second largest multi-sport event in the world, surpassed only by the Summer Olympics. 7,500 volunteers are needed to help run the games. For more information on the 2011 World Police and Fire Games, visit www.2011WPFG.com
