GRIMM, GOLDEN AND MALLIOTAKIS DONATE $2500 TO PARADE
Brooklyn- Congressman Michael Grimm (R-C, NY 13th District), State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-C, 60th District) today announced a combined donation of $2500 to support the 2011 Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade. The legislators are making the donation in response to the fundraising challenges parade organizers are facing this year.
Congressman Michael Grimm stated, “I will always do everything I can to honor those who have served our country, and thus it is with great pride that I make this donation to support the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade. I encourage everyone who is able to lend their support to ensuring that the country’s oldest Memorial Day Parade continues for many years to come."
Senator Marty Golden stated, “As a long time supporter of the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade, I am proud to join with my colleagues in making this significant contribution so to ensure that this parade will march through our streets this Memorial Day. For the veterans who have served this Nation so proudly, for the troops overseas right now, and for those who left to defend us and never returned, this parade is to honor their service.”
Golden continued, “This parade has become a grand patriotic tradition for Brooklynites and a time to showcase their military appreciation. My colleagues, Congressman Grimm and Assemblywoman Malliotakis, and I look forward to being among those marching and waving the American Flag high.”
Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis stated, “Our veterans have sacrificed to defend our nation and protect our freedoms. They have contributed so much to our community and it is with much appreciation of their sacrifices and contributions that I join my colleagues in supporting the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade. This parade is the oldest Memorial Day parade in the nation and a huge part of the community. We must work together to ensure that this tradition continues for eternity.”
The elected officials are also encouraging residents to make a monetary contribution to support the 144th Kings County Memorial Day Parade scheduled for May 30th. Checks or money orders can be sent to:
