Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R,C-Brooklyn, Staten Island) recently joined Congressman Michael Grimm, Former Mayor Rudy Guiliani, Senator Marty Golden and George Siller at the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run in Brooklyn. The event was sponsored by the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization created in honor of Stephen Siller, a firefighter who selflessly gave his life on 9/11 in order to rescue others. The group offers support to children who have lost a parent, as well as firefighters and military men and women who have been seriously injured, sacrificing their quality of life in the line of duty. The organization also builds homes for seriously wounded veterans, including Army Specialist Brendan Marrocco of Staten Island, a quadruple amputee injured in Iraq.

"Being a part of this event and running alongside thousands of heroes was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had," said Malliotakis. "When exiting the tunnel, 343 firefighters lined the street holding up images of the 343 firefighters lost on that day. It was a very emotional, heartwarming event and I look forward to participating again next year."

Senator Marty Golden stated, "In honor of a real New York hero, Firefighter Stephen Siller, I am proud to have been a supporter of this year's Tunnel to Towers Run. The courage Stephen showed the morning of September 11, as he raced to the World Trade Center, is incredible. His story should never be forgotten and we will make sure that this generation, and future generations, never forget him, his bravery and his service to New York City."
