Senator Golden: “11 Years Later, the Bay Ridge Unity Task Force Continues Work to Advance Peace and Harmony in Brooklyn”

Brooklyn – State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today attended and participated in a meeting of the Bay Ridge Unity Task Force, Chaired by Pastor Khader El-Yateem of the Salam Arabic Lutheran Church, held at the Bay Ridge Jewish Center.

Senator Golden, a founding member of the Task Force established in October of 2000, was among the religious and community leaders in attendance, including Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, so to continue efforts to build a community of tolerance and peace.

Senator Golden stated, “As the holiday season is fast approaching, may we remind our neighbors of the importance of respecting the many faiths that worship within our community. Today, I was proud to be part of the Bay Ridge Unity Task Force's important continuation of efforts to create a neighborhood of ever more tolerant citizens. To foster of a sense of peace and pride in our community, a place that so many can be proud to call home.”

“This year, we commemorated the 10th Anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001. I remember being out in the local streets, moments after the first plane hit the World Trade Center, with my fellow members of the Task Force. The Bay Ridge Unity Task Force was instantly mobilized, and successfully helped maintain order, peace and harmony on our streets," continued Golden. “May the peace on Earth that we as a Task Force wish to see, begin with our work, our actions and our desire to create a world where we can live in happiness and without fear no matter what we are or who we worship.”
