Senator Golden Honors Heroes at Memorial Day Tribute

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), a member of the State Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Military and Veteran Affairs, today honored local veterans at a Memorial Day breakfast and awards ceremony, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by the men and women of our community in the name of the United States of America.
The extraordinary service of three veterans were highlighted for special recognition at the event including Army veteran Nicola Dominick Salomone (posthumously), U.S. Marines Corporal George Broadhead, and U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant George S. Deliantes.
United States Army Veteran Nicola Dominick Salomone was honored posthumously at the event for his service and his family accepted awards he earned during his service career including the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button for his service during World War II.
The event also honored Corporal George Broadhead of the United States Marines who Senator Golden selected for induction into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame this year. Corporal Broadhead, of Gerritsen Beach, served during the Korean War. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Naval Unit Citation, and campaign awards.
Staff Sergeant George S. Deliantes received a New York State Senate Resolution for his service to our nation at the event. Sergeant Deliantes served in 62 missions with the United States Air Force and for his service during World War II, George was awarded the Purple Heart, the Air Medal and the Bronze Star.
Senator Golden stated, “We are here today gathered in a room of heroes who have served the Nation and have defended our freedoms throughout the world. As we celebrate Memorial Day 2011, may we remember the sacrifices of those who proudly wore the uniform of the United States of America. It is only because of their service, are we able to live in freedom.”
