Albany- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today was appointed by State Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos to serve as the Chairman of the Senate’s Civil Service and Pensions Committee.
“As one born and raised amongst a family of civil servants, and now proudly representing a Senate District which is home to many, I thank Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos for selecting me to Chair the Senate’s Civil Service and Pensions Committee. My personal and professional experience will guide me in this new role,” said Senator Marty Golden.
“In the weeks and months ahead, many issues must be addressed as we work to close a $10 billion dollar budget deficit here in New York State. I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues, union representatives, and the people who make government work, the civil servants, to come up with innovative proposals to protect their interests and the interests of all the taxpayers of the State of New York,” continued Senator Golden.
“Senator Marty Golden is a former New York City police officer who understands labor, has an excellent reputation with Mayor Bloomberg and is a true leader,” Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos said. “New York is facing very difficult times and it’s important that we have leaders like Senator Golden who can bring people to the table, respect both sides and reach agreement on tough issues.”
Senator Skelos has asked Senator Golden to remain as a member of the Senate Aging Committee but not in the role as Chairman.
“Senator Golden has done an outstanding job as Chair of the Senate Aging Committee and he will remain a member of that committee because he has established such close ties to this vital community,” Senator Skelos said. “Older Americans can always count on having Marty Golden as their advocate in Albany, but I have asked him to take on the leadership of a new committee with a new challenge.”
Earlier this month, Senator Golden was appointed as a member of the State Senate Committees on Banks, Codes, Finance, Health, Insurance, Investigations & Government Operations, and Veterans, Homeland Security & Military Affairs. Last week, Senator Golden was appointed by Senator Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos to the MTA Capital Program Review Board.
Senator Golden was Chairman of the Senate Aging Committee from 2003-2008.
