Senator Golden Speaks to Twu Local 100 Members

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden, (R-C-I, Brooklyn), last week spoke to members of the Transport Workers Union Local 100 at the Ulmer Park Bus Depot in Brooklyn, to discuss the fiscal impact of the Metropolitan Transit Authority budget on their union membership and on the City and regional transportation system. Senator Marty Golden is the State Senate’s representative to the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s Capital Review Board.

Senator Golden also spoke about legislation he has introduced in the State Senate, S.4257, which is known as the “transit lockbox bill”. The bill would prevent the “sweeping” of funds dedicated to transportation for other budgetary needs. Assemblyman James Brennan is the Assembly sponsor.

Senator Golden stated, "I am introducing the Transit Funding Lockbox Act in the New York State Senate because the days of simultaneous fare hikes and service cuts must end. The management of our transit system cannot be built around a misguided policy of increases and reductions. It doesn't make sense that while the quality of the commute of thousands has deteriorated; it's costing more for them to travel."
