Senator Golden Statement on United States Postal Service Decision to Delay and Review Proposed Closings

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today issued the following statement in response to the decision of the United States Postal Service:

"I believe that the United States Post Office is acting wisely in holding off on closing any post offices or postal stations until the United States Congress completely reviews the agency's operations.

There is no denying that the budget of the United States Postal Service must and should be reviewed, but it must be done in a way that will have the least impact on the customer. It would be wrong for them to make haphazard decisions so to reduce their deficit, such as closing post offices, which would have long term consequences for the average American.

In the meantime, we can not let our guard down and suspend our fight to save the Ovington Postal Station. We must continue to make the case to save the Ovington Postal Station on behalf of the local residents who rely on it for their mailing needs. We must make the vitality of this Station known, so that when the time comes to recommend and approve closings, it is no longer on the list."
