Reminder: Final Week of Senator Nozzolio’s Annual Drive to Benefit the Troops

December 12, 2011

State Senator Mike Nozzolio is reminding everyone in our community that this is the last week to donate personal items to our brave men and women serving overseas as part of his annual Holiday Drive for the Troops.

“Making a small donation and providing our troops with the little comforts from home is just one way that we can all say ‘thank you’ to our servicemen and women who have given so much to protect our freedom,” said Senator Nozzolio. “I thank all of those who have already contributed to this year’s Holiday Drive and I encourage everyone to continue spreading the word to help us show gratitude for our brave soldiers.”

Senator Nozzolio was inspired to begin this annual drive with the help and support of Belinda McElroy of Sodus. Belinda’s son Lt. Patrick McElroy is currently on active duty serving our Country in Afghanistan.

“There is no better time than the holiday season to think of the troops defending our Nation overseas,” said Belinda McElroy. “Receiving a package from home and a personal ‘thank you’ note truly means so much to our soldiers who are far away from their homes, family and friends during this time of year.”

Senator Nozzolio is working with several local leaders to expand the Holiday Drive, including New York State Assemblyman Brian Kolb, Assemblyman Gary Finch, Assemblyman Bob Oaks, Assemblyman Mark Johns and Webster Supervisor Ron Nesbitt.

Items can be dropped off through Friday, December 16th, when Senator Nozzolio will send the items to our troops overseas.  Items that are needed most include toothbrushes, toothpaste, cleansing wipes and other personal care items. Nonperishable items such as snacks, gum, hard candy, instant coffee and dry-mix beverages are also welcome, as well as DVDs, stationary, pens and small articles of clothing like hats or socks.

 Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

·        Senator Nozzolio’s Office. 119 Fall Street, Seneca Falls;

·        Assemblyman Brian Kolb’s Office. 607 W. Washington Street, Geneva;

·        Assemblyman Gary Finch’s Office. 69 South Street, Auburn;

·        Assemblyman Bob Oaks’ Office. 10 Leach Road, Lyons;

·        Assemblyman Mark Johns' Office. 268 Fairport Village Landing, Fairport;

·        Supervisor Ron Nesbitt’s Office. 1000 Ridge Road, Webster.

 It is also suggested that individuals and families who make donations also include a personal “thank you” note to the troops. Anyone who would like their donated items to be sent to a specific soldier from our region who is currently stationed overseas should contact Senator Nozzolio’s office with their serviceman or woman’s name and where they are stationed.
