New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio, who serves on the Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee, has announced that the Committee will hold a public hearing in Canandaigua to discuss and develop legislative measures that will enhance the State’s horse racing industry. The hearing will take place on Tuesday, September 6th at the Ontario County Safety Training Facility in Canandaigua.
“Only a short distance from Canandaigua is the Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack, which employs hundreds of our local residents and brings over a million visitors to our region every year. Holding this hearing right here in Ontario County presents an excellent opportunity to bring attention to the importance of horse racing to our regional economy and develop long term solutions to help this enterprise create jobs and generate more revenue for our taxpayers,” said Senator Nozzolio.
Individuals involved with the racing industry at every level, as well as local and State officials will be asked to testify and share input on measures to strengthen New York’s racing industry. In the discussions at the hearing, Senator Nozzolio will focus on retaining jobs for horsemen, breeders and racetrack employees, making New York racing more competitive with other states and supporting our region’s local horse farms.
“From our many horse breeding farms and crop farms, to the trainers, stablemen, jockeys and many others who work at the Finger Lakes Racetrack, the horse racing industry provides many jobs and is a significant component of the Finger Lakes economy,” said Senator Nozzolio. “We must work together and develop policies that offer the best solutions for the horse racing industry and for property taxpayers across New York State.”
In addition to serving on the Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee, Senator Nozzolio is also a member of the Senate Republican Task Force on the Revitalization of the Racing Industry in New York, which makes policy recommendations to the Committee on ensuring long-term stability at New York’s horse racing facilities.
The hearing is scheduled to take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6th in Rooms 2 and 3 at the Ontario County Safety Training Facility, 2914 County Road 48 in Canandaigua, New York.
