New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been selected to serve as Chairman of the New York State Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee. The Committee is one of the most important committees in the State Senate and has jurisdiction over all aspects of criminal justice and the correctional system.
“It is an honor for me to be given the opportunity to once again serve as Chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Committee to improve our State’s correctional system, support our brave law enforcement and correction officers and strengthen our criminal justice laws to protect our communities from violent criminals,” said Senator Nozzolio. Senator Nozzolio previously served as Chairman of the Committee.
“Because of his outstanding record, Senator Mike Nozzolio is truly the best person to serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction,” said Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos. “He is a national leader on these issues and his experience is going to be needed as the state tackles not only budgetary challenges, but trying to undo the damage done during the past two years to our laws designed to protect our citizens and punish criminals.”
Senator Nozzolio has been an outspoken advocate for criminal justice reform, crime victims' rights and tougher sentencing guidelines for violent criminals. He has fought to end work release and conjugal visit programs for dangerous felons, and helped enact critical legislation including Megan's Law, the Sex Offender Reform Act, the Domestic Violence Prevention and Family Protection Act and Jenna's Law. Currently, he is working to enact legislation that would prevent violent felons from being released back into our local communities on parole.
“We cannot continue to put innocent New Yorkers at risk. As Chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, I will work to adopt a tougher stance on crime and issues relating to parole to keep our streets and communities safe for law-abiding New Yorkers,” said Senator Nozzolio.
