State Senator Mike Nozzolio today congratulated four students from the State Road Elementary School in Webster for being selected as winners in the New York State Senate 2011 Earth Day Poster Contest.  Third graders Jack Hoctor, Brennen Albert, Joel Farmen and Siraj Clark had their winning artwork displayed at the State Capitol as part of a special exhibit to raise awareness of recycling and waste reduction.

“The creativity and enthusiasm for our environment that these students have demonstrated is inspiring and serves as an example of why we must protect our great natural resources,” said Senator Nozzolio. “I congratulate Jack, Brennen, Joel and Siraj as well as their Art teacher Kelly Ceckowski on this outstanding achievement.”

The New York State Senate sponsored the poster contest for students in grades K – 6 in recognition of Earth Day and the great strides New York has made in helping to improve our environment. The theme of this year’s contest was “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”, and students were encouraged to be creative  and exchange ideas on solving problems concerning recycling and preventing litter and waste. Students from every corner of New York State submitted their artwork for the competition.
