New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today hosted over 130 Victor High School students, coaches and school administrators for a special day at the State Capitol honoring the talent and dedication of two teams and one student who captured state championships for the school in 2010. The Victor Marching Blue Devils Band, the Victor Blue Devils Boys Volleyball Team and Victor Girls Swim Team diver Ashley Broderick were all presented with special legislative resolutions for winning their statewide competitions last year.
“These outstanding achievements are the result of tremendous hard work and commitment on the part of these students and their coaches. Their dedication and spirit of teamwork stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families schools and communities across New York State,” said Senator Nozzolio.
The Victor Marching Blue Devils Band won the 2010 New York State Championship with a near-perfect score at the New York State Field Band Conference Championships. The team also earned a trip to Annapolis, Maryland for the United States Scholastic Band Association Championships, where they placed 4th in their division. Joining the team in Albany was Field Band Director Eric Everhart and Field Band Assistant Rhonda Everhart.
The Victor Blue Devils Boys Volleyball Team won the first ever New York State Division II Championship for boys volleyball after defeating Eastport South Manor High School. The team was lead by Head Coach Dave Wisniewski and Assistant Coach Jake Martin.
Also being honored was Victor senior Ashley Broderick, who captured the 2010 New York State Federation Girl’s Diving Championship. Ashley won the State diving title on the final jump of her high school career. She was joined in Albany by Victor Girls Swimming and Diving coach Christine Thompson.
Joining the students and their coaches at the Capitol as they received these honors were Victor Superintendent Dawn Santiago-Marullo, Victor High School Principal Yvonne O’Shea, Athletic Director Ron Whitcomb and school Audio/Visual Coordinator Aaron Isaacs.
“These exceptional musicians and athletes have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence that is tradition at Victor High School,” said Senator Nozzolio. “I commend all of the students on their hard-fought victories, as well as their parents, teachers, coaches, and school administrators who gave them the support and motivation to succeed.”
