Senator Breslin Urges Awareness and Involvement During Foster Care Month

(Albany, NY) Senator Neil D. Breslin (D-Delmar) recognizes May as Foster Care Month and encourages New Yorkers to learn more about the foster care system and to help our state’s youth.

Each May, National Foster Care Month shines a light on more than 400,000 children within the foster care system. The campaign is concentrated in the month of May, but extends to the other 11 months of the year helping to raise awareness on the urgent need for these young people have a safe home and support system.

“By dedicating the month of May to raising awareness and promoting involvement, together we can continue to make strides to improve the lives of all children.,” said Senator Breslin

Currently there are 114,000 children in the U.S. waiting for adoptive homes.

The senator continued, “There is nothing more powerful to a foster child than to be welcomed in one’s home after temporarily, or even permanently, losing everything. Fostering a child is a rewarding experience for everyone involved and I hope, if possible, anyone capable of opening their heart and home will do so.”
