Isabella Streffacio, a 1st grader at Harding Avenue Elementary School in Lindenhurst, was presented with a Summer Reading Certificate by Senator Owen H. Johnson upon her completion of the New York State Senate Summer Reading Program. Senator Johnson met with Isabella and other Summer Reading Program participants at Sorto’s Top Bun in Lindenhurst on Thursday, October 13, 2011 for a special luncheon to celebrate their achievements.
Senator Johnson sponsors the Summer Reading Program to encourage students throughout the community to continue reading over the summer vacation. The free program is designed for elementary students and is open to any young child who enjoys reading. Students are asked to read at least three books over the summer and record their thoughts about their chosen works on reading logs that are available through Senator Johnson’s office at the end of each school year.
