Statement From Senator Pat Gallivan on Governor Cuomo’s State of the State Address

“After hearing Governor Cuomo’s State of the State Address, I am optimistic that we will be able to work together to implement common sense solutions to fix our broken state government. For far too long out of control state spending and spiraling taxes have worked to smother Western New York’s economy. We can no longer sit idly by as families make an exodus from New York State for greener pastures elsewhere.
I am relieved that the governor concurs that we cannot balance our state budget by raising taxes. The only way to get our state on solid financial footing is through tough, and likely painful, decisions to cut state spending. Curbing spending, cutting taxes and reducing the regulatory burden on local governments and small businesses, will lead to an environment conducive to the creation of private sector jobs.
I look forward to working with Governor Cuomo to help him understand the unique challenges facing Western New York. It is my hope that he will support the UB 2020 initiative that will serve as a catalyst to the economic revitalization of Western New York. The best thing our state government can do is create an economic environment in which the private sector can provide good paying jobs. UB 2020 will do just that.
In the weeks and months ahead, I will work with the governor and my legislative colleagues to restore our rightful distinction as the Empire State. I know it won’t always be easy, but by working together, we can put New York State back on the right path.”
