Governor Signs Three Ritchie Bills Into Law

Legislation Reduces Red Tape On Business, Government

State Senator Patty Ritchie announced that three bills she sponsored in the Senate to cut red tape on business and local government—including a measure allowing wine in frozen desserts like sherbets and sorbets—have been signed into law.

“I am very pleased that Governor Cuomo has signed these bills I sponsored to cut red tape for small businesses and help make government more efficient,” Senator Ritchie said.

“My wine-in-desserts bill allows food manufacturers to team with wine makers to invent new dessert products using our state's award winning wines,” Senator Ritchie said. “We are giving customers what they want, and helping to grow this important industry.”

“Once again, Governor Cuomo is showing New York State is open for business,” Senator Ritchie said.

The bills signed by the governor include:

S4054-A – Allows the sale of frozen desserts with wine. “With this law in place, businesses will be able to develop new products like sherbets and sorbets using wine which will potentially expand the market for New York produced wine,” Senator Ritchie said. The bill was sponsored in the Assembly by Agriculture Committee Chairman Bill Magee.

S4080 – Reduces regulations on grocery stores selling food items on the number of scales for customer use. The bill was sponsored in the Assembly by Assemblyman Magee.

S4415 – Allows the Jefferson County District Attorney to hire a stenographer when needed from outside of the county. The bill was sponsored in the Assembly by Assembly member Addie Russell.
