New York State "Yellow Ribbon Day" to be commemorated Saturday, April 9th at Saratoga-Wilton Elks

Senator McDonald passed a Resolution asking the Governor to declare April 9th as "Yellow Ribbon Day" in New York, recognizing that over the past decade the distribution of yellow ribbons around the State has helped to "heighten awareness and support of our service men and women who are serving our country, in addition to promoting unity and respect for those brave individuals who protect our freedom." Senator McDonald, a Vietnam veteran, notes that April 9th is also the traditional date for remembering Prisoners of War, especially those who died in captivity.

Yellow Ribbon Day will be celebrated locally at the Saratoga - Wilton Elks Lodge, 1 Elks Lane in Saratoga Springs, from 11 AM to 1 PM. McDonald will be joined at the event by Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, along with Congressman Chris Gibson, a 24-year Army veteran who be the keynote speaker.

Those attending are encouraged to bring snacks that can be sent to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event is organized by Carol Hotaling, who is known locally as the "Yellow Ribbon Lady" and has been honored nationally for her work in support of our nation’s troops.
