Sen. McDonald Honors Karen Gordon as 2010 Woman of Distinction

Albany  – Karen Gordon, the Executive Director of the Commission on Economic Opportunity, was honored by the New York State Senate as a 2010 Woman of Distinction at a ceremony at the Capital on Tuesday, May 24. Senator Roy McDonald selected Gordon as his nominee for the prestigious honor.

Karen Gordon started her career with the Commission on Economic Opportunity for the Greater Capital Region, Inc. in 1972 as a bookkeeper for the financial department. She was promoted extensively within CEO and became the Finance Manager, Deputy Director and in 1982 was appointed Executive Director. Since that time she has been recognized extensively for her contribution to communities across the Capital Region.

“Karen Gordon is an extremely hard working woman who has dedicated her life toward helping others,” said McDonald. “People like Karen make our communities a better place and help others become successful in their lives.”

Karen has been married to Bill Gordon for 40 years and has two children, Tracy Marinucci and Philip Gordon. She is also the proud grandmother of Gabriella and Rocco Marinucci. A life-long resident of Troy, she also earned a B.S. in Management from the College of St. Rose.

McDonald has previously bestowed Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen Jimino, Saratoga County Clerk Kathy Marchione and Saratoga Bridges Executive Director Valerie Muratori with the Woman of Distinction honor.
