Senator Díaz Calls for Complete Transparency in Ethics Legislation

Albany, NY – State Senator Rubén Díaz today called for complete transparency in any ethics legislation that the Senate and Assembly may consider during the current session.

“When the last ethics bill was considered by the Senate, I was the only Senator who voted ‘no’.

“Why? Because the bill would have required transparency for everyone but the attorneys, and we all know the attorneys are the ones who make the big bucks.

“I am calling on Governor Cuomo to submit an ethics bill that requires complete and total transparency for every member of the legislature - lawyers, teachers, farmers, engineers, and even members of the clergy.

“Anyone who wishes to serve in the New York State Legislature should be required to disclose all of his or her outside income without exception and the source of that income.

“That is transparency.

“Without complete transparency for everyone, any ethics bill that the legislature might consider is a sham, and I will again vote no, even if I am the only one.”
