Senator Reverend Diaz: Let NYPD Internal Affairs Handle Things
New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) has released the following statement in response to ongoing media hype about the NYPD ticket-fixing scandal:
"I am calling on law enforcement agencies to let the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau investigate the parking ticket fixing scandal involving New York City Police Officers.
I believe that if any Police Officer who puts his or her life in the line of duty and then 'fixes' a parking ticket for a friend, that Police Officer should be investigated by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau and punished by the Internal Affairs Bureau. I do not believe that he or she should be fingerprinted, indicted, treated like a criminal, and lose his or her career.
On the other hand, if any Police Officer asks for money in order to 'fix' a parking ticket, then he or she should be treated like a criminal and indicted by law enforcement agencies."
