Three Kings Day
Reverend Jessie Jackson used to preach a pro-life message that reminded all of an ancient Kenyan expression: “No one knows whose womb holds the chief.” This means that taking the life of an unborn baby could mean that the world would miss out on a wonderful life.
As we prepare to celebrate the Feast of the Three Kings, I cannot ignore how important it is to be pro-child, pro-family and pro-life.
According to the Bible, King Herod saw the birth of Jesus as a threat.
The Three Kings told Herod about their plan to follow the star to worship the Baby Jesus because Jesus would bring salvation to the world. Herod attempted to beguile and deceive the Three Kings saying that he, too, wanted to honor the infant.
Today’s abortion industry is not unlike King Herod who sought out precious and innocent young lives to destroy. Today's abortion industry targets Black and Hispanic children whose lives are also seen as a threat.
It is my special privilege each year to organize the annual Three Kings Day celebration in the South Bronx to honor our rich heritage with our precious children.
Our Three Kings Day celebration will unite South Bronx families who cherish our children, our culture and our tradition. This happy occasion will include songs and games and each child who attends will receive a gift.
Our children will receive toys, and those who are school-aged will receive backpacks filled with school supplies. We hope to inspire our children to succeed in school. We want to assure the promise of our children’s future.
I encourage all to remain committed to protecting our children and to celebrating their lives.
Wishing all a blessed Three Kings Day, I remain ...
