Resignation of Cathie Black as NYC School Chancellor

(D-Jamaica, NY) April 7, 2011, Senator Shirley L. Huntley has always been a strong advocate for education. As former president of the School Board District 28 and current Co-Chair of the Senate Committee on New York City School Governance, Senator Huntley has the experience and vast knowledge of the needs for our schools and students to be successful.

“New York City has the largest public school system in the nation with over 1.1 million kids that aspire to learn, achieve, and succeed. The resignation of Cathie Black as Chancellor will provide students and parents a new and different approach to ensuring our children get the best education possible. Furthermore, I respect the now former Chancellor’s decision to step down from her position, and put the interest of our children ahead of her own. As the new incoming Chancellor, Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott must work positively and proactively with parents, students, teachers, principals, administrators, and community members who all want our educational system to become one of the best in the nation and the world. I look forward to working with Dennis Walcott on any future endeavors that will promote equal access and achievement for all our children in New York City,” said Senator Shirley L. Huntley.
