Job Fairs Announced to Fill 100 Positions at General Electric
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that "Jobs Express," the state's new website designed to help New Yorkers who are seeking employment, now lists 52,000 job openings and has introduced improved search tools. In the past four weeks since the launch of Jobs Express, the website has been visited over 200,000 times and has listed an additional 10,000 job openings.
Governor Cuomo also announced that General Electric (GE) will fill 100 positions at its manufacturing facility in the Capital Region. These job openings are all listed on Jobs Express. There will be two job fairs at the One-Stop Career Centers in Albany and Schenectady this week to help fill these positions.
At the job fairs, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to speak with GE Energy representatives about the open positions, which include entry-level production, plumber/fitters, and skilled trades like electricians, mechanics, and utilities generalists. The New York State Department of Labor will be assisting GE with recruitment, a free service it offers to any company looking to hire in New York.
"With over 200,000 site visits in under one month, the new Jobs Express website is already connecting New Yorkers looking for employment with businesses looking to hire," Governor Cuomo said. "I am pleased that companies like GE are discovering the value of Jobs Express and I encourage all New Yorkers seeking a job to take advantage of it."
The job fairs will take place on:
· Wednesday, November 30 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Schenectady County One-Stop Career Center, 797 Broadway, Schenectady, NY 12305
· Thursday, December 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albany County One-Stop Career Center, 175 Central Avenue, Albany, NY 12206
Jobs Express now allows users to customize their job search, expand the geographical region of their search, and find any and all jobs they want in the New York State Job Bank. Jobs Express sorts the thousands of jobs listed on the state job bank by region to help job seekers evaluate what industries are growing in their area and find out what opportunities are available in specific economic sectors.

For further employment resources, there are 88 public One-Stop Career Centers across New York where job seekers can go for additional free services. These services include job search and placement assistance, skills assessments, resume help, labor market information, career planning, and training assistance. Job seekers can also meet with employment counselors to devise a career plan that fits their individual needs and skills.
