Senator Saland Honors Michael Burke at the Senate’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C – Poughkeepsie) today announced Michael Burke of Poughkeepsie was inducted into the Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame.  The veterans selected are recognized not only for their distinctive military service, but also for the service and commitment shown to their community that helps make New York a better place.

Michael Burke served our country in the Army during the Vietnam War.  He received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, an Army Commendation Medal for heroism, a Vietnamese Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Conspicuous Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge and the National Defense Service Medal. 

“It is critically important that we pay tribute and reflect upon the dedication of those who have served their country with such distinction.   Michael continues to serve his community and his fellow veterans,” said Senator Saland.  “Michael Burke is a remarkable individual who has demonstrated a selfless commitment to his countrymen and neighbors throughout his life. His contribution to both  his nation and his community deserve to be recognized and honored.”

At 62 years of age, Mr. Burke remains active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ by serving as Post Commander for the VFW Vail Wolff/McKenna Frye Post 170 in Poughkeepsie and as District Commander for District 2.  Michael and his wife Juana have five children and reside in Poughkeepsie, NY.    

“Michael Burke is a much decorated patriot who deserves this special recognition as a fitting expression of our gratitude and admiration,” said Saland.
