Designation honors Saland’s commitment to agriculture
Senator Steve Saland (R, I, C Poughkeepsie) today announced that he has been named to the New York Farm Bureau’s “Circle of Friends” for the 2010 legislative session. The award is based on a legislator’s voting record on issues of importance to New York agriculture, bills sponsored by the legislator, as well as overall legislative support for agricultural issues. Senator Saland has been named to the “Circle of Friends” every year since its inception in 1990.
“There are approximately 35,000 farms in New York State and 99 percent of those are family owned. A strong agricultural industry is beneficial our regional and state economy, and to all New York State residents,” stated Senator Saland. “I am proud to have partnered with the Farm Bureau on many initiatives, most recently enacting a new law (S.3626), which helps protect the future of the state’s agricultural industry by facilitating better access and communication between our local government officials and the technical resources of the Department of Agriculture and Markets.”
“Senator Saland joins a number of other legislators in the Senate and Assembly that have a superior voting record on issues and have shown strong support for the New York farm industry during the 2010 state legislative session," stated Dean Norton, New York Farm Bureau president. "Each member of the Farm Bureau Circle of Friends has demonstrated an understanding of the important issues impacting farmers and the considerable impact the industry has on our economy and quality of life. We are pleased to provide the "Circle of Friends" designation to Senator Saland to thank him for his hard work on behalf of farmers in his District and across New York State.”
The New York Farm Bureau, the state’s largest general farm advocacy organization, works closely with the State legislature to strengthen and enhance the agricultural industry in New York State.
