The Business Council of New York State named Senator Steve Saland (R, I, C - Poughkeepsie) as one of the top pro-jobs supporters in the state legislature as part of its 2011 Voters’ Guide.
The Business Council of New York State recently released its 2011 Voters’ Guide, which measures New York State Legislators’ commitment to improving the state’s economic climate and performance by scoring their support for key business legislation during the 2011 session.
Senators and Assembly members were rated for their stance on 11 two-house bills considered by The Business Council to have a significant impact, either positive or negative, on New York’s economic climate, according to
Heather Briccetti, acting-president and CEO of The Business Council.
“By working together with Governor Cuomo and my colleagues in the Legislature, we passed an on-time budget with no new taxes, fees, or borrowing. We focused on meaningful legislation aimed at real economic development which is helping to turn our state around,” stated Senator Saland. “ I look forward to continuing our fight to end the tax and spend culture in Albany and enact legislation, including the repeal of the MTA Payroll Tax, in the 2012 Session.”
Included in the job-growth legislation signed into law this year was the real property tax cap; a reduction of Medicaid spending by $2.8 billion and a cap on future Medicaid expenditures; Recharge New York, a permanent program to reduce energy costs and taxes on small businesses and manufacturers; and enhancements to the Excelsior Jobs Program to expand tax credits for the creation of new private sector jobs.
The Business Council is the leading business organization in the state, representing large and small firms. Its membership is made up of thousands of companies, as well as local chambers of commerce and professional and trade associations.
