As part of my ongoing commitment to provide you with information that will help keep your home, family, business and community safe, I am pleased to let you know of a new program called NY-Alert.
NY-Alert is a web-based, early warning program offered through the New York State All-Hazards Alert and Notification website. The information posted here includes severe weather warnings, significant highway closures, hazardous materials spills, and many other emergency conditions.
NY-Alert works closely with local law enforcement and other agencies to deliver a broad range of emergency messages — from “Amber Alerts” involving missing children to “Missing Adult Alerts” for the elderly. It also provides important updates pertaining to school closings and serious accidents, as well as information about sex offenders in your community.
By signing up for NY-Alert, you can receive warnings and emergency information via the web, your cell phone, email and other technologies. You select the type of warnings you want to receive, and how you want to receive them. Signing up for NY-Alert is free. Your information is protected and never shared with anyone else. You can modify what type of information you receive and unsubscribe at any time.
With winter -- and the inevitable severe weather -- just around the corner, it’s the right time to consider this added level of protection for you and your family. I encourage you to sign up for NY-Alert now by visiting my website at www.saland.nysenate.gov and clicking on the NY-Alert link.
Having the information you need before an emergency can make a difference. I hope that you will consider signing up for NY-Alert today.
