Larkin Honors Local Veteran for His Service

William Stratis Named To The NYS Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) announced that he has nominated William Stratis to the New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame.

"It is an honor and a privilege for me to have nominated Bill Stratis to the Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame," said Larkin. "His dedication to the veterans of the Hudson Valley, coupled with the sacrifices he made during his time in the military, make him an outstanding addition to the Hall of Fame and an inspiration to all," said Larkin.

Mr. Stratis served in the US Army during World War II. He was captured and taken as a Prisoner of War while in Germany. He was held for over two months at Stalag 6a in Hemer, Germany near Dortmund. During his military service, Mr. Stratis was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart for his injuries. He was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star for his actions during the War.

After serving two years, and achieving the rank of Sergeant, Mr. Stratis was discharged from the Army. He is a member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War organization and studied to become a Certified National Service Officer. Has been volunteering five days a week at Castle Point Veteran's Hospital for many years helping to process claims for veterans and their spouses. Every year, over 4 million dollars goes to the families he has assisted through his volunteer work at Castle Point.
