Deirdre Glenn Selected as 2011 "Woman of Distinction"
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today honored Deirdre Glenn of Newburgh, NY at a special ceremony held in Albany as one of the NYS Senate's 2011 "Women of Distinction."
Ms. Glenn was honored for both her extensive work with numerous community groups and her wide-ranging volunteer activities. In particular, she spent over nine years as Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh and she is currently involved with the Newburgh Armory Unity Center coordinating the usage and development of the recently renovated facility. She currently serves as Warden at St. George's Episcopal Church and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Newburgh Chamber Music, Newburgh Preservation Association and the City of Newburgh Planning Board.
"Deirdre has worked tirelessly to make Newburgh a better community," said Senator Larkin. "Her work with Habitat for Humanity reflects her dedication to helping others achieve safe, affordable housing for their families. Her current work with the Armory continues this dedication to assisting others by ensuring community groups, including athletic teams, have a place to gather, socialize, and play. These are all things that contribute to a better quality of life and to making Newburgh a better place to live," said Larkin. "I applaud her dedication and commitment to the community and it is my privilege to honor her today."
The "Women of Distinction" program was created by the Senate to honor outstanding women whose contributions have enriched the quality of life in their communities. The program is in its 14th year.
