Financial Planning Association of New York Pro Bono Committee - Sandy Disaster Financial Relief Program

SIBOR is partnering with The New York Chapter of the Financial Planning Association, a professional organization comprised mostly of Certified Financial Planners, lawyers, insurance professionals, and other financial advisors. Its pro bono committee is looking to give back to the community. The FPA frequently holds workshops and seminars to teach the public about finances.
Following Superstorm Sandy, the FPA NY Pro Bono committee announced that they will conduct local seminars and hold planning workshops providing individual advice to impacted residents and businesses. Their services are free of charge and there will be no attempt to sell any products or services.

Time: from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM
To receive free financial planning advice for individual/family and small business, you must meet one or more of these eligibility requirements:
a) Use home has been significantly impaired or damaged;
b) Business owner whose place of business has been significantly impaired;
c) Loss of work as a direct result;
d) Suffered a direct or indirect financial loss;
e) Incurred medical and/or other significant expense (e.g., alternative housing); or
f) A family member has been injured or died.
Volunteers will provide advice in the following areas: Providing guidance to gain more control over their finances: Assessing what financial decisions have to be made now, soon, and later Identifying resources for needed services and relief assistance (e.g., FEMA, SBA) Tips to prevent fraudulent services Budgeting / managing increased expenses (e.g., alternative living, clothing, medical) Debt management Tax relief and guidance Estate planning
