March 14, 2012
Continuing his efforts to enact a balanced, on-time State budget for the second year in a row, New York State Senator Andrew Lanza today was appointed to serve on the Joint Budget Conference Committees for Education and Transportation. Senator Lanza also serves on the Senate Finance Committee, which is responsible for all aspects of the State budget.
"It is an honor to be given the important responsibility of serving on the Education and Transportation Budget Conference Committees," said Senator Lanza. “One of my top priorities is to ensure that State government remains accountable to the taxpayers of Staten Island and there is no better way to do that than to deliver an on-time, fiscally responsible State budget that builds on the many successes we achieved last year.”
“As a member of these important Budget Conference Committees, I will play a significant role in reviewing the Governor’s proposed budget and developing the Senate’s priorities for the state budget. I will fight to bring funding for highways, roads, bridges and schools home to Staten Island.”
The Education Budget Conference Committee is responsible for all aspects of school aid funding and education proposals and the Transportation Budget Conference Committee is responsible for determining State support for the transportation infrastructure of New York.
Joint Budget Conference Committees began public meetings today to work towards delivering an on-time budget.
The Transportation and Education Budget Conference Committees are two of ten Budget conference committees negotiating various aspects of the State Budget. The other committees are: Education; Higher Education; General Government/Local Assistance; Health; Mental Hygiene; Human Services/Labor; Economic Development; and Environment, Agriculture and Housing.
