SCHROON LAKE, N.Y., May 24, 2012 — New York State Senator Betty Little took a tour of a new cell site near Schroon Lake that has been creatively disguised to look like a tree. AT&T* has activated five new mobile Internet cell sites as part of its most recent network expansion, in Essex, Warren and St. Lawrence Counties, which provides new coverage in Adirondack Park. Areas of new coverage include:
· Schroon Lake South: southern and central shores of Schroon Lake, the lake itself, I-87 Northway between exits 26-28, Route 9, Thurman Pond, and Pottersville; Thurman: Route 28 corridor between The Glen and Wevertown; North Creek: Route 28 corridor in the area of North Creek; Childwold: Racquette River Blueway Corridor, Sevey, and Routes 3 and 56 in St. Lawrence County; Lake Luzerne: Route 9 between Corinth and Lake Vanare, Conklingville Road between Route 9 and County Route 7 and County Route 1 from Route 9 to Hadley Hill Road.
“AT&T's continued investment in its Adirondack network is great news for for residents and visitors,” said Senator Betty Little, (R) Queensbury. "Reliable wireless coverage and connectivity is vital to the economic health of my district. More and more businesses rely on it and people here for work or pleasure expect to have connectivity. Each cell site activation also enhances public safety in this remote region. So I’m very pleased to join AT&T and the Schroon Lake community today to celebrate the activation of this new site knowing how much it means to the quality of life for those I represent.”
Now with mobile Internet speeds, AT&T customers who live, do business or visit Adirdondack Park can surf the Web, download files faster, and enjoy the very latest interactive mobile applications in more areas.
“We’re proud to continue to bring AT&T’s mobile network to new areas of the Park and along the busy traveled I-87 Northway,” said Robert Holliday, vice president and general manager for AT&T Upstate New York. “Connectivity to the mobile Internet opens up a lot of new opportunities for local businesses and consumers. AT&T is committed to working with area municipalities to provide coverage across the region as a way to help drive the local economy.”
The new sites compliment AT&T’s previously announced enhancements in Adirondack Park which included areas of Bolton, Caroga Lake, Hague, Huletts Landling, Johnsburg, Northville, Pilot Knob, Lake Placid, Lyons Falls, Mineville (Belfry Mountain), Nicholville, North Elba, Old Forge, Port Henry/Moriah, Rattlesnake Mountain, Saranac Lake, and Whiteface Mountain.
