Low-cost power will help spur growth for the Livingston County business
OLEAN – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I- Olean) joined Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in announcing the most recent round of ReChargeNY Power Allocations. American Rock Salt Company LLC of Mt. Morris has been given a total recharge award of 2,650 kilowatts for business expansion in Livingston County.
“The power drawn from this allocation will allow American Rock Salt to continue to grow and prosper and provide good-paying jobs for residents of Livingston County and the entire region,” said Senator Catharine Young. “I am pleased that NYPA and the Governor’s Regional Economic Development Council recognized the need to provide businesses with affordable power, especially in rural parts of the state. I also applaud the fact that 50 percent of the power is coming from green hydropower produced here in the state.”
In total, 40 businesses who received power allotments in this third round will create almost 3,800 jobs to help boost the economy. While this round was focused on job creation, the two previous rounds, which took place in April and June, focused on job retention at both businesses and not-for-profit organizations. All three phases together will allocate 910 megawatts of power.
ReChargeNY applicants were evaluated on a number of criteria, including the number of jobs at the facility receiving a ReChargeNY allocation, number of jobs created or retained within New York State, applicant’s risk of closure and significance of applicant's facility to the local economy.
“Power-intensive industries know that the cost of electricity is one of the barriers to growth and expansion,” added Senator Young. “I am proud that American Rock Salt is committed to upstate New York and is looking to grow its business here and create more jobs. That truly benefits us all.”
