The $10,000 to be used by MAST for manufacturing training for workforce
OLEAN – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I- Olean) applauded Dresser-Rand on its 100 year anniversary in Olean, and visited their facility as they presented a $10,000 check to the “Dream It, Do It” campaign, which will be used by the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier (MAST) for workforce training. Dresser-Rand’s check presentation coincided with “Manufacturing Day.”
“Companies like Dresser-Rand are what help to make our community strong,” said Senator Young. “Not only have they been committed to Olean for 100 years, but they are investing in the area and helping the future labor force get the training they need to find good-paying jobs. Dresser-Rand is in the midst of a very successful period where they secured the largest contract in the company’s history and added 100 jobs. They are a local success story.”
Senator Young has long been a champion of manufacturing and, specifically, training for the workforce. She previously secured a $250,000 grant for a manufacturing technician training program run by BOCES.
Thanks in part to this $10,000 grant, MAST seeks to increase enrollment in the technical programs offered in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties by 30 percent each year to support the labor demands of local manufacturers. One of MAST’s greatest assets is its ability to match the needs of the employers in the area with workers, by training workers, both in high school and beyond, for the jobs that are available. These technical careers, and reinforcing their importance to the local community and economy, have helped to provide opportunities for our young people to stay here.
After a fire in 1912 destroyed their plant in Belmont, Dresser-Rand built a new facility and relocated to Olean. Dresser-Rand is among the largest suppliers of rotating equipment to the worldwide oil, gas, petrochemical and process industries. Dresser-Rand operates manufacturing facilities in the United States, France, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Norway and India and has a network of 49 service and support centers covering more than 150 countries.
