Senate Passes Fuschillo Resolution Honoring the Memory of Merrick Resident Walter Mintz

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed a legislative resolution honoring the memory of longtime Merrick resident and former Merrick Library Board President Walter Mintz, who recently passed away at the age of 82.
“Walter Mintz cared deeply about the Merrick community and served it tirelessly for many years. Whether it was helping children through the Kiwanis Club or working on behalf of his beloved Merrick Library, he left a lasting impact on our community. I’m pleased that the Senate paid tribute to his memory and many years of devoted service,” said Senator Fuschillo, who sponsored the legislative resolution.
Walter Mintz served on the Merrick Library for 20 years, with 15 of them as President. An avid lover of reading and learning, Mr. Mintz never stopped working to improve the library’s service to the community during his time on the board. He spearheaded initiatives to create new community programs and bring new technology for local residents to utilize. He also worked to create a state of the art facility that would benefit the entire community. In addition to his service on the Library Board, Mr. Mintz served as a board member for the Merrick Kiwanis Club.
With passage of the legislative resolution, Mr. Mintz’ name legacy of service will forever be part of the New York State Senate’s official record.

MOURNING the death of Walter Mintz, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Walter Mintz of Merrick, New York, died on March 20, 2012, at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, Walter Mintz distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, A passionate reader and seeker of knowledge, Walter Mintz was elected to serve on the Merrick Library Board for 20 years, 15 of those as President; and
WHEREAS, During that time, Walter Mintz led initiatives to expand community programming, to introduce new technology and to construct a new state of the art building; and
WHEREAS, Walter Mintz's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Walter Mintz is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; children Richard (Helaine), Peter (Leslie) and Carol (Bill); and grandchildren Jake, Abby, Johanna, Talia, Charlotte, Samantha and Elsa; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Walter Mintz leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Walter Mintz, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Walter Mintz.
