Senator Fuschillo and Ccmac to Offer Free Skin Cancer Screening Program in Copiague on July 19th

     New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) will be partnering with the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign (CCMAC) in sponsoring a free skin cancer screening program to help protect residents from skin cancer.

     The free skin cancer screening program will be held on Thursday, July 19th from 12 pm to 3:30 pm at Tanner Park, which is located at the end of Baylawn Avenue in Copiague. Screenings will be conducted by trained dermatologists. CCMAC will be working with Dr. Steve McClain of McClain Labs, Dr. Scott Flugman of Huntington Dermatology, Dr. Jennifer DiFazio of Memorial-Sloane Kettering, Dr. Jeffrey Ellis and Dr. Amy Slear of Belray Dermatology, and the doctors from Stony Brook Hospital Dermatology Department to provide the free screenings. The program is open to everyone, regardless of their age. Residents can show up anytime during the program; no appointments are required.

     According to CCMAC, one in five people will be diagnosed with some type of skin cancer in their lifetime. Malignant melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, is the fastest growing cancer in America, claiming one life every hour. People of all ethnic backgrounds and races can get skin cancer. One blistering sunburn during childhood or adolescence more than doubles melanoma risk later in life.
