Senator Fuschillo Announces Lirr to Resume Full Rush Hour Service on Monday

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, today announced that the Long Island Rail Road will resume full rush hour service this Monday, December 10^th. This marks the first time since Hurricane Sandy that the Long Island Rail Road is operating at full service capacity.    

Senator Fuschillo has been informed by Governor Andrew Cuomo and the Long Island Rail Road full morning and evening rush hour service will resume on Monday due to the restoration and re-opening of one of the two flood-damaged East River tunnels. According to the LIRR, re-opening of the second tunnel is expected by Christmas, restoring full service capacity in both tunnels damaged during the storm.  

           “This is welcome news for Long Island Rail Road commuters and is another positive step as we rebuild and recover from Hurricane Sandy. After weeks of dealing with overcrowding and schedule changes, commuters will finally be able to travel to and from Manhattan as they did before the Hurricane. I thank the Long Island Rail Road and Amtrak crews for their efforts to restore this service,” said Senator Fuschillo.
