Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate has confirmed Governor Cuomo’s nomination of Thomas Madison as the Executive Director of the New York State Thruway Authority.

"Governor Cuomo deserves credit for once again submitting an outstanding nominee in Thomas Madison. Mr. Madison's wealth of governmental, transportation, and administrative experience make him well qualified to lead to the New York State Thruway Authority, address the challenges it faces, and ensure that it is safe, reliable, and efficient for the 271 million vehicles that depend on the Thruway each year. I look forward to working with Executive Director Madison and wish him the very best for success," said Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate's Transportation Committee.

Mr. Madison’s background includes years of transportation and administrative experience, including serving as Federal Highway Administrator at the U.S. Department of Transportation from 2008 to 2009 and serving as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation from 2005 to 2007. In addition, he was Deputy Secretary for Transportation from 2004 to 2005, and held the positions of Director of State and Local Government Affairs from 2001 to 2003 and Deputy Appointments Director from 1999 to 2000. Mr. Madison is also a former chair of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Capital Program Review Board and the New York State Public Transportation Safety Board.

Prior to his confirmation by the Senate, Mr. Madison’s qualifications and professional experience were examined as part of a Senate Transportation Committee meeting chaired by Senator Fuschillo.
