Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate has confirmed Governor Cuomo’s nomination of Joseph Lhota as the Chairman & CEO of the MTA.
“The MTA faces a number of financial challenges, and its next leader must find ways to improve its finances without simply raising fares on overburdened riders. Joe Lhota brings extensive public and private sector experience in managing budgets and finding ways to do more. For an authority which needs to greatly increase its financial accountability and transparency, this is exactly the type of leader the riders need and deserve. I applaud Governor Cuomo for this nomination and I wish Chairman Lhota all the best and look forward to working with him in his new position,” said Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate's Transportation Committee.
Mr. Lhota’s background includes serving as Deputy Mayor for Operations under Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, and also serving as Budget Director, where he was responsible for managing the City’s multi-billion dollar operating and capital budgets. He is also a former Commissioner of the New York City Department of Finance. Mr. Lhota, who holds an MBA from Harvard University, also has extensive private sector experience.
Prior to his confirmation by the Senate, Mr. Lhota’s qualifications and professional experience were examined as part of a Senate Transportation Committee meeting chaired by Senator Fuschillo.
